I have held on to this piece for so long.
My Caucasian brethren for whom I possess an affinity will undoubtedly think that I am lumping the entirety of their race into one huge category. If you are one of those that think that then I am probably going to disappoint you-for I am lumping all white people into this category.
However, there is a distinction. There are those that consciously believe that NO RULE applies to them, and work diligently to ensure that t hose rules that are implemented are consistently applied to others in order benefit them. Then there are those that have become acclimated to the reality of "that's just the way things are" due to being born within the white race. The latter are those that tend to seek to comply while also considering what is in the best interest of society in general.
I am proud to say that there are many persons that I consider friends and associates that comprise the latter category.
"Privileged"
is a piece that I composed at the very onset of the Covid-19 pandemic after hearing two very important people in my life verbalize that "white folks ain't used to following rules". After hearing them voice their observation, I began to make a point of noting the reactions of whites after being told what they could and could not do due to the various rules that were implemented due to Covid.
My observations left me appalled!!
However, I pray that the effects of this pandemic will change the mindset of many regarding societal rules and that they apply to ALL.
