Show Notes

The first episode of Year 2 of the Spoken Word with Slater Hayes.

This piece...I was hoping to not release. However, it seems that nothing appears to have changed since I began this journey, via this platform, one year ago.

I was hoping to honor the memory of Congressman John Lewis on today. However, it seems that the police of Minneapolis, Minnesota are intent on staying in the spotlight for what is yet another, to say the least, questionable shooting of a black man.

Unfortunately, the same script that has played out on too many times previously, has been played out, yet again.

Yes, there appears to be uncertainty as to whether the police officers (SWAT) that were executing a purported NO KNOCK WARRANT-yea, the kind that was alleged to have been banned-were justified in shooting Amir Locke.  An armed Amir Locke who brandished his REGISTERED weapon after being awakened by the noises of intruders.

Yes, intruders that had entered his home with the intent of serving a warrant-ON SOMEONE ELSE- for what have been reported as property crimes.

" A Tattered Script"

casts light on the litany of occurrences that have robbed young black men of their lives by  seemingly overzealous cops. The question becomes, "how long must we endure these occurrences being chalked up to overzealousness"?

How long must we endure the violation of our civil rights-our inherent right to life?

By the way, did anyone else take note of the officer that reached out to the offending officer to prevent him from firing even more rounds into the helpless body of young Amir?

Yea, that part seems to be conveniently overlooked.

OUR SPIRIT LIVES!!!
