I composed this piece on last year, just prior to the January 20, 2021, presidential inauguration.
The euphoria during that time was palpable. One of US was ascending to the second highest office in the land.

There was a "run" on "chucks" and every visible neck adorned a string of pearls.
However, since that time there have been concerted attempts to tarnish the image of the "bronzed queen" that we were so excited to celebrate.

Yes, some of the damage that has incurred may have been self-inflicted, but in all sincerity -what Vice-President has not been scrutinized and left to simply carry the water for the individual occupying the highest office in the land?

However, this particular occupant has been scrutinized, ad nauseum. Could it be it's because she is a woman.? Or could it be because...

"She Looks Like Me"

In my opinion, it is a combination of both-with an even higher intensity of scrutiny directed at her because she is a BLACK WOMAN. There is going to be every attempt to disparage and castigate her because of her close proximity to the seat of power.

The attempts are not veiled. The actions of those intent on casting doubt on her character and their assertions that she lacks leadership skills are intended to remove her from consideration for nomination, if in fact, the current president chooses to not seek office in 2024.

WE cannot be bamboozled into thinking that "our bronzed queen" lacks what is necessary to ascend to the office of president. WE must remain vigilant against all efforts that seek to cast a pall on her simply because she may possess ambitions. Ambitions that were expected, a rite of passage, for seemingly every one of her predecessors.

Let US continue to esteem our bronzed queen irrespective of the negative attention and the questions asked by media regarding the possibilities of her remaining on the ticket in 2024.

Remember, it is the sole purpose of MANY to ensure that a person of color NEVER OCCUPIES the ultimate seat of power, again.
